PAWS ABROAD: Saving a Sato

On April 2011 we set out on our next journey, to Puerto Rico where stray dogs are commonly referred to as Sato's. The over population of Sato's was evident upon arrival. During your typical trip to the wonderful island it may not be apparent but once you enter the small villages you will be welcomed by strays in every block. This is nothing but normal for the locals to see. Upon speaking to locals they would point out each dog and describe to me how long these dogs have been roaming the streets and their stories. I met a brave soul her name was Reina a pit-bull, she had been in the streets for over 3 years on her own. Her owners left her in the streets after moving and no one ever took her in. The locals have taken on feeding her outdoors but she still has not found a home of her own. Since it was late at night I was never able to capture a photo of her or able to leer her in to save her. I returned the next morning and she was no where to be found. Dogs like Reina are all over Puerto Rico and wonderful people like Save A Sato Foundation do everything they can to save them with the limited resources they have. It was a wonderful experience I will not forget. Not all dogs/cats where pictured but we were able to feed many dogs and cats and give preventatives to more than 20 feral dogs.
