I took a break for a couple years from traveling abroad to help shelters while I focused locally and gained more knowledge.
This year were going to....COLOMBIA. It's in the beginning stages so I have very little info at the time. I am in contact with some rescues in Bogota in regards of me helping at facilities and materials needed. During our last trip to Puerto Rico we were set to bring back a dog but time circumstances did now allow us. This year that is my main goal.
WHY COLOMBIA?
Colombia has a high population of animals with only one main non-profit shelter. They are struggling to stay open with the population they have to intake. Very small rescues help to aid in their struggle but it is not enough. Due to the lack of shelters in the area, the amount of stray animals is at its high along with animal abuse. I hope to gain more knowledge as I come in contact with the shelters directly and hear what their main obstacles are.
For information on how you can help homeless animals in Colombia visit www.adacolombia.org. It is all in Spanish so you may need a translator :)
